Tree planting with Cumbria Wildlife Trust

In 2022, the Attraction committed to supporting the brilliant work of the Cumbria Wildlife Trust. For every paying visitor to the Attraction, 10 pence of their entry ticket is donated to the Trust to plant trees in the amazingly wild Eycott Hill Nature Reserve, an upland site of Special Scientific Interest in between Penrith and Keswick.  To date, our visitors have already helped us raise enough money to plant well over 2000 trees and we hope to add many more to this.

Eycott Hill was purchased by the Trust in 2015 and much work has already been done to manage the land, with wildlife as a priority. The nature reserve is made up of moorland, flower-rich meadows and wetlands which offer a varied home for all kinds of wildlife, mammals and nesting birds. The site is also grazed by a herd of Belted Galloway cattle.

In December, staff from the Attraction visited the nature reserve to meet Kevin Scott, the Cumbria Wildlife Trust Northern Reserves Manager along with several volunteers to see the work that has taken place, hear about plans for the future and also to plant some trees themselves. With spectacular views of the Lake District mountains we heartily recommend a visit – although we can’t guarantee you will have blue skies like this!

Cumbria Wildlife Trust is the only voluntary organisation devoted solely to the conservation of the wildlife and wild places of Cumbria. The Trust stands up for wildlife, creates wildlife havens, and seeks to raise environmental awareness.
