The first Peter Rabbit 50p coins available in our Lake District Beatrix Potter shop till

**UPDATE Thurs 7 April 2016 – we have now given away all our 3000 50 pence coins!  We hope everyone loves them as we do!**

We are delighted to be one of the first locations along with some local National Trust properties where people can find The Royal Mint’s brand new Peter Rabbit 50p circulating coin, which has been created to mark Beatrix Potter’s 150th anniversary.

We are thrilled to join forces with The Royal Mint, and have the first Peter Rabbit 50p coins in our tills – before anyone else! And it might well be that the coins could stay in the lucky receiver’s pocket, rather than be spent else where – as this is such an iconic design and is the first time that characters from children’s literature will appear on UK coins!

When Beatrix Potter first published Peter Rabbit, back in 1902, the income from the sales of the book allowed her to buy Hill Top, in 1905, so it is fitting that the first coins will only be available in the Lake District.  What a great way to start the Beatrix Potter 150th Anniversary!
