Peter Rabbit retires his Lake District Treasure Trail

After 10 busy years hiding beautiful ceramic eggs across the Lake District every Easter, and raising many thousands of pounds for the charity WaterAid, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction have decided that 2018 will be the last year of this much-loved event.

Feedback over the years has been exceptional with families exploring walks in the Lakes, enjoying sometimes glorious sunshine and often stormy skies.  Over the years there’s been ups and downs, twists and turns but it’s always been a great day out!  Over the years local businesses have been incredibly generous, supporting the event with prizes including hotel stays and tickets to the best Attractions and in recent years the egg hunt has become amazingly popular.  To keep the egg hunt top secret the Attraction uses a small and dedicated team of staff to hide the eggs, and year on year finding new and interesting locations is their challenge.

The event is intended to be a fun, family day in the Lakes with the added bonus of raising some money for charity and the eggs are hidden by volunteers in their own time.  Despite all this, there is inevitably some negative feedback from people who are disappointed about egg locations or complain that the trail is unfair or fixed.  Little do they know the work and endeavours that go in to keeping everything top secret.  Year on year there seems to be no limit to the lengths that participants will go to find an egg, sometimes driving on private land causing damage and upset.  Protecting the beauty and tranquillity of our amazing landscape is of utmost importance so the Attraction feels that after 10 years the Egg Hunt has come to its natural conclusion.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part over the last 10 years and to those who have supported us.  It has been amazing!   We will be thinking of other ways to keep raising money for charity so keep an eye out on our website.

With best wishes from all at Peter Rabbit Treasure Trail HQ
